How To Participate:

Women’s Knowledge: Traditional Medicine and Nature

Women have been bearers of a significant body of traditional knowledge. Women have been connected to herbs since the dawn of time, from treating a disease with a Home remedy to an expert in various forms of Traditional Medicine. As a medicine woman or mother, they have passed down their traditions throughout the generations to keep herbalism alive and thriving. Women have gradually created a system of representation of the body and of illness. And the depiction in complicated alchemy was fertilized not only by traditional knowledge of illness and medicine but also by social, ritual and religious interpretations of health issues. Thus, above and beyond the fascinating account of women’s knowledge and their relationship with nature, as well as medicinal plants and traditional medicine, helps us to understand many other healthcare systems.

We recognize that there is a lack of participation of women at global meetings. Thus, to eliminate gender bias and to promote gender equality, TMED-Australia aims to bring together tantamount of Women and Men in Tradition Medicine from across the globe to present their research work.

TRADITIONAL MEDICINE IN AUSTRALIA

Traditional Medicine in Australia is a burgeoning industry providing new health services and occupational opportunities to significant numbers of Australians every year. Australia accounts for one of the largest markets shares during the forecast period for Tradition Medicine, in the Asia-Pacific region. The factors responsible for market growth in this region are the adoption of traditional medicine by regional people as primary treatment, pharmaceutical companies, researchers, policymakers, increasing demand for natural medicines, and increasing research funding for herbal medicines and its multiple applications.

History: Traditional medicine is widely practiced across Australia. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia have been practicing Traditional medicine like healing songs and bush medicines etc., to quell their ills from years, the knowledge is passed from generation to generation. Long-standing traditional healing methods stay most common in more remote areas, including Central Australia, home to the Ngangkari healers, and Western Australia's Kimberley area, home to the Maparn.
